In 2020, the leaders of a few Arizona female riding communities each heard one common request: plan exclusive rides to empower lady riders.
Three female leaders pulled their riding groups together and planned to unite female riders on the first Saturday in May, the day the whole world comes together to celebrate women who ride. International Female Ride Day, created by Vicki Gray in 2007 after hearing the same request, celebrates the power of women riders by uniting, encouraging, and riding, alone or together, all over the world.
With the first Arizona IFRD ride amidst global lockdown, 55 lady riders came together for a ride from Phoenix to Prescott. Year two tripled the number of women celebrating the power of unity and riding. The third and fourth years challenged these lady leaders with a ride to the majestic mountain town of Superior, Arizona, each year bringing over 375 women riders together to Just Ride.
This year, Jessica Batley and her team of volunteers are creating an incredible IFRD Ride to Payson, AZ and an event to follow on May 4, 2024, Arizona's 5th Annual Arizona IFRD.
Join us in empowering women! Learn more about IFRD and show up for the ladies who ride.
There is a graphic above and here >> with the meetup spots for our local volunteer captains, each with a KSU that aligns with getting each group to the Beeline highway (hopefully) in time to join a larger group. Each group an arrive separately in Payson, or groups can converge along the ride.
The big event is in Payson. You are welcome to meet us all there. Most smaller groups or one larger group converging on the Beeline Highway should be arriving around 12:30 pm. Vendors will start setting up earlier.
We suggest you map your ride and consider meeting with a local group from the PHX Meeting Spots if you can get to one with ease and a fun, safe ride. Remember, May 4th is all about YOUR RIDE... so make it enjoyable. No stress, just wheels on the road and wind in your hair. If we don't catch you at a meetup, please say hello to us at the group photo or raffle drawing... or before!
Because of costs, we did not book a professional photographer, but we do plan to gather for a photo at 2:30 on the BLEACHERS at the Payson Event center and will have lots of volunteers handy to take some great shots for us.
Tina Upstsill and her Coolidge business, Studio 22 Tattoo & Piercing has helped pay for and procure entertainment starting at 1pm.
If you plan to stay the night, several of us will go to a local bar for karaoke and lots of laughs.
There's lots to do in Payson, from great restaurants to sight seeing and mountain riding—just be careful of wildlife, especially in those evening hours.
For those wanting to hang with the ladies of IFRD, there is a Payson town-rep recommended Biker Bar called Midtown Yard on the 260 about 4 miles from town center. Uber if you plan to drink, and if you don't, there is plenty of bike parking.

Once at the Payson Event Center and all the fun and laughs, everyone is pretty much on their own. However, there are usually several people. or groups heading back down to PHX, so if you're looking for a group ride back down, ask around, make new friends, and ride safe.
The same applies for Sunday morning for those staying overnight.
We ask everyone to be aware of the packed dirt at the event center. For most, it won't be a challenge at all. If you need assistance parking, please let someone at the entrance know or park along the entryway road.
Be sure to bring your kickstand plate for dirt parking.
The Payson event is scheduled from 1 PM to 6 PM. Most of us will be there between 12 and 1230.
Feel free to come on in once you’re parked…If you are staying, some of us are going out for karaoke, drinks, and food… and you know from the last several years night laughs and games.
There is a map of the event center below… Beeline Highway is on the right side of the map, so we are all riding toward the top of the map and turning left into the event center area.
The road that goes into the event center, Green Valley Parkway, is a paved road. The first right, where you will see some of our IFRD helpers is where you’ll find packed dirt parking. This packed dirt parking area is also where we can park RVs for free camping and behind that, as you can see on the map below, is tent camping.
If you’re not comfortable riding on the packed dirt, you are welcome to go down the road a bit, turn around, and park your bike on the far side of the road Sturgis style, so back in and lineup at an angle. If you are comfortable, one of our helpers will be happy to get your bike safely to the parking area… Just be aware that things can happen, and we can’t be liable should something happen like a drop. You can also walk your bike…Grab us and we can help walk on either side if you’re uncomfortable with the dirt. Or park Sturgis style on the road that goes to the event center.
We are not going to be in the rodeo section of the event center… We’re going to be on the shady side. So once you park, just head over to where you’ll see our vendor tents and food trucks…The performer will be set up there too… I forgot to add him to the map.
We will meet inside the rodeo center at 2:30 for our group photo, assembled on the bleachers.
